Monday, July 3, was the hottest day ever recorded globally, according to data from the United States National Centers for Environmental Prediction.
The average global temperature reached 17.01 degrees Celsius (62.62 degrees Fahrenheit), surpassing the August 2016 record of 16.92C (62.46F) as summer heats up across the Northern Hemisphere.

Nest Thermostats turning off AC after version 6.1.1-2 update
Following an update that Google rolled out yesterday, some Nest Learning Thermostats are turning on/off AC systems every few minutes. Version 6.1.1-2 looks to be responsible for the issue, but it’s unclear how widespread the problem is.
Update 5/28: Google looks to be rolling back thermostats to version 6.1-9 over the past day, thus resolving the issue.
The issue first emerged on Wednesday following a Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd-generation) update to version 6.
OSIRIS-REx parachute deployment affected by wiring error
WASHINGTON — The drogue parachute on the OSIRIS-REx sample return capsule failed to deploy properly because of a design error, a flaw that did not prevent a safe landing of the capsule.
In a Dec. 5 statement, NASA said a review of data from the capsule’s Sept. 24 landing in the Utah desert and documentation about the vehicle led the agency to conclude that “inconsistent wiring label definitions” prevented the drogue from deploying as intended during the capsule’s descent.
